The IOM has been designed specifically with efficiency in mind. The IOM is not a typical operating manual but an information system optimized for use in the process industry. Key components of the IOM are:

As-built functionality
Keeping the information up to date (as-built) is also a primary goal. IOM supports the feedback reporting and analysis on the published data. This control loops (added information, deleted information, and changes) will be processed in a workflow that is designed to facilitate continuous client improvements. By doing this, source data as well as published data in the IOM will remain as built.
